Thursday evening @Löwenbräukunst

Together with Oriana Tundo, the Löwenbräukunst would like to offer a stage for those who normally enliven the clubs and nightlife of this city. The musical experience should be consciously perceived in the context of the Löwenbräu as the art centre of the city of Zurich. A new public space will be opened up for the artists* and their musical expressions in order to find a hearing in a new context.

* The concerts will take place in the schwarzescafé of the Luma Westbau. This is located on the first floor of the Löwenbräukunst and was designed by Austrian artist Heimo Zobernig.

We are back with our thursday evenings! LE FOYER – IN PROCESS will start our event series with two talks concerning the «Green Deal in the Art Field».

MAY 27, 2021 6:30 p.m.: «Green Deal in the Art Field: Institution and Organization: Institution und Organisation»

In the first round of talks, we ask how the concept and rhetoric of ecological "sustainability" have found their way into institutional debates and structures. September 2020
Thursday, 3. September

Thursday Evening

Next Thursday evening’s event could not be a better fit for the newest addition to Löwenbräu. This time the focus will be on text, with an evening full of poetry by and with Claire Plassard and Florian Vetsch. The two will read poems from their books. The format will be a kind of poetic badminton game: A says something, and B reacts. Reacting to the other person is the only rule that the two poets will follow. Their poems might be short or long, quiet or loud. Herr Wempe a/k/a DJ Soulsonic will offer musical accompaniment
.

WHERE schwarzescafé or White Terrace(depending on the weather)
WHEN Thursday, 3 September, bar opens at 7:30 p.m., reading starts at 8 p.m.
Free admission

Thursday evening at Löwenbräukunst

Our series of Thursday evening events will continue this month. As in July, people who contribute to public life in other contexts outside of Löwenbräu will be featured on the following Thursday evenings. We want to celebrate the diversity of contemporary forms of expression and performance and offer space for new initiatives and projects.

In August we will focus on film with an event featuring the Cine-Club. The Cine-Club was founded in 2012 out of the desire to be able to watch and discuss films together in a living room. This opportunity is now shared with the public, and the club makes guest appearances at different venues. We’re delighted that Löwenbräu will be the next venue to host the club.

So come by this Thursday evening. We look forward to seeing you there!

Thursday, 20 August 2020

Bar opens at 8 p.m., films at 9 and 10 p.m.

White Terrace, 1st floor, Löwenbräukunst, Limmatstrasse 270 (in inclement weather next door at schwarzescafé)

Black Panthers

Agnès Varda, France/United States, 1968

28 min., in English with English subtitles

Agnès Varda documents a demonstration in Oakland against the imprisonment of Huey P. Newton, activist and co-founder of the Black Panthers. The short film not only testifies to Varda’s empathy and fascination with her adopted home, but is also a strong political statement.

Atlantics

Mati Diop, France/Senegal, 2009

16 min., in Wolof with English subtitles

In her short film, Mati Diop brings together three young men from Senegal around a campfire, where they talk about their friend Serigne, God, and the sea. Serigne died while trying to cross the Atlantic. In this fragmentary and lyrically dreamlike debut, the documentary mixes with the fictional in repressed stories and feelings.

E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial

A special outdoor cinema event—only in good weather! Further information to follow next week.

Thursday, 2.July 2020

Door opening: 19.30 hours

Concert start: 20 hrs (duration approx. 1h)

FREUD

The Duo FREUD allows itself the freedom to improvise. This does not give their production a certain roughness in its effect, but also provides surprising elements. Apart from that, little is known about the artist duo - who themselves say they are part of an undercover community for electronic music. So it remains exciting in a double sense!

Thursday, 9. July 2020

Door opening: 19.30 hours

Concert start: 20 hrs (duration approx. 1h)

Miles Singelton

Miles Singelton has played acoustic guitar since he was eight. He didn't start making beats until 2015. So you quickly notice that Miles is not afraid of cross-genre references and connections. His sound is reminiscent of the classic soul of the 70's from artists like Earth Wind and Fire, while the beats are more oriented towards 90's hip hop artists like Eryka Badu, or Slum Village. Miles lives and works in Zurich.

Naim

Since he was a teenager, Naim has pursued his love for art and music with great passion. To date, the young Basel native has published a number of DIY projects. He rarely limits himself in his choice of forms of expression. In addition to multidisciplinary music videos and genre-breaking EPs, Naim can therefore look back on an admirably multi-faceted career.

Protective Measures

In close contact with strangers there is a risk of contracting COVID-19. For this reason, we will register the names and phone numbers of all visitors. These will be used for contact tracing, if necessary. The data is stored internally and shared with the responsible authorities in the event of an infection. In this case, a 14-day quarantine is likely to be ordered.

For the protection of everyone, we ask you to observe the following recommendations:

- All official social distancing and hygiene guidelines must be adhered to.

- Face masks required

- The number of spots is limited in order to comply with social distancing guidelines.

- People with flu symptoms (cough, fever, or difficulty breathing) will not be admitted.
